Soundbite learning

Where listening means learning

About Us

Since Soundbite Learning incorporated in September 2006, with our first product launched in October 2008, we have taken our time to develop the right kind of product for the GCSE market. Each step of the way we have entered into discussion and testing with students and parents - from the design of the site, to the way the audio works. All our content has been written by those who know what GCSE students need to know and how to explain it in the best way – teachers – so you know you can rely on the information you are hearing.

How it started

Getting nowhere fast when trying to help his 15-year-old son with his homework, Ian Thompson thought, "There must be a better way of doing this." A motley collection of barely useful revision books was simply not good enough.

Anthony Coxon agreed. "This is the 21st century, after all! Students spend over half their lives online". The trick was to tap into their way of doing things and make a product relevant for academic learning and, potentially, a product which could make a difference.

In a world obsessed by downloads and podcasts, both of us believed that there was a market ready and waiting for the right kind of audiobook download. But we had something to prove. What would make our product relevant to students who already had some access to online revision materials?

We did our homework. We went into schools and talked to students and asked them what they wanted. They told us, reinforcing our already heartfelt belief, that something which could be listened to on a portable player would work. After all, songs from iTunes seemed to be working; and with iPod and MP3 ownership among 14-16 year olds now almost universal, the technology wasn’t an issue, nor was domestic broadband connectivity.
